Baking Soda {not for baking}

Happy Friday!
One of my favorite cleaning products is baking soda you can practically clean everything around your home with this little box.  But what about as a beauty product?  Baking soda is so versatile that serves as a great natural and safe product to put on our skin too!

5 ways to use baking soda as a beauty product:

Facial and Body Scrub
This is a great natural way to scrub your face and body.  Mix one part of water with three parts of baking soda and apply on your skin avoiding eye area.  Perfect for that glow we all like!

Teeth
Damp your toothbrush, deep it in baking soda and brush your teeth!  It's perfect to work on coffee stains once in a while.  I must confess it doesn't taste great but it's worth it. I would't do it daily though as it might be to abrasive on your teeth.

Deodorant
You can really apply it directly on your skin and replace your deodorant.  It naturally absorbs odors instead of covering them.

Hand cleaner
Mix three parts of baking soda and one part of water to create a paste and scrub your hands. You can add some essential oil for a nice scent. It will leave your hands soft as baby skin!

Bath soak
Add half cup of baking soda to your bath. It neutralizes acids on your skin and helps wash away oil.  Your skin will be silky smooth!

Feliz dia Mama

Mother's day is coming up this Sunday and I have always enjoyed this day.  Even before I became a mom I already loved to celebrate it with my mom.  Now she's far away in South America but I still celebrate her and send her a present every year.

Here's what I'd like to give my mom this time... or get it myself :)

Nacho

For as long as I can remember, my daughter has been asking for a dog and for as long as I can remember my answer has always been no.
My poor little girl even wrote a poem about it when she was three years-old:
"When will I be old enough
to have a pet I like!"

Every time I thought of having a dog I would only see the dark side:
It's too much work
I don't want to walk him
I don't want fur on much couch
I don't want him to pee or poop on the floor
I don't want the smell of a dog in my apt
etc, etc, etc

But my husband and daughter decided they would get a dog weather I liked it or not.
And one Saturday morning they went out to pick up Nacho.

I tried to stay away of the dog responsibility for the first couple of days and pretend I didn't care, but I could not resist any more.  Nacho was just too cute and funny and sweet!  I caught myself coming home one evening and screaming "where's my baby, where's my baby!!!" and that was it.
My husband and daughter looked at each other and could not control their laugh.

Here walking on the park and still trying to decide how to style his outfit :)

I am really SO happy that we got this cute little guy. It has given us laughter, joy, happiness.  I will not lie to you that it is a lot of work, and I don't love to clean after him while we're potty training and that I have to mop our floors pretty much every other day BUT the joy he gives us is totally worth it!

Do you have a pet?  Have ever consider getting one?

Cinco de Mayo

Happy Friday everyone!
I LOVE mexican food, tacos, veggie burritos, salsa, enchiladas, tamales and please don't let me get started with guacamole, we would be talking for hours.

I was surprised when my friend told me they don't celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Mexico as much as it is celebrated here.  Their independence day is September 15th!
Anyways I'll take any excuse to eat Mexican :)

When we lived in Chicago we had the chance to eat a lot of real authentic Mexican food.  Something that called my attention was Mango with chili.  I was like, what?!
After I tried it I would get it every time I could!

Do you love mexican food as much as I do?  What's your favorite one?  I can't decide :)

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Feng Shui

I had so much fun doing the spring cleaning series last week.  Spring is the season of growth, renewal and I take it as a great opportunity to show our home a little love.  I truly believe that a nice clean home helps us to feel more energized and then more productive, don't you think?

I was very happy to have Anjie Cho as my guest this week and wanted to recap all her Feng Shui tips so you can have them handy!

Feng Shui meaning according the Wikipedia:
Feng shui is a Chinese system of geomancy believed to use the laws of both Heaven and Earth to help one improve life by receiving positive qi (energy flow).

Bathroom
The bathroom is a place where water is always coming in and out of the home.  In Feng Shui, water represents wealth and money flow.  Make sure you keep the toilet seat closed, as well as the bathroom door.  This will keep the wealth from flowing away from you!

Kitchen
What's your favorite burner on your stove?  Mine is located in front, on the right.  In Feng Shui, the stove is very important in your home.  It represents wealth and how we nourish ourselves in the world.  so next time you use a burner, try using a different one.  Don't automatically go for your favorite one.  Instead, open up your opportunities and try something different.  Also, be sure to keep your stove clean, and use it at least once every day.

Bedroom
Our bedrooms are tied closely to our personal energy because we spend a lot of passive time in the bedroom sleeping.  So, while you're spring cleaning, don't forget to clean underneath the bed!  Clutter under the bed symbolizes subconscious blocks in your personal life and relationships.  This is an ideal time to re-organize and clear out any clutter and anything you haven't used in the last three years.  Also make sure that if you must have storage under the bed, everything should be soft and bed related.

Living areas
Make sure all your windows are really clean!  The windows represent the eyes of the inhabitants.  If they are dirty and cloudy, take special care to wash them well, the inside and outside.  Make sure the frames are in good repair so you can open and close them easily.  In Feng Shui, the windows should be clear and easy open, so you can feel seen and heard as well as nourished.

Thank you so much for those great tips Anjie.  Make sure to visit Anjie's Holistic Spaces to learn more about Feng Shui and how we can apply it on our home!

Do you have a special tip to make your home more relaxed?  I'd love to hear from you!
